The Cats

All our cats have access to both an enclosed resting area and separate play space. The fully insulated resting area has split level shelving, so a comfy bed can be placed on the shelves offering our cats a private cosy resting area. The doors to the resting space can be left open on sunny days, and of course kept closed on chilly days as there is also a window and flap for access and ventilation. Of course  please feel free to bring in any items for for cats stay if you would like, such as beds and blankets. 

The Cattery

The play space has a lovely comfy chair so the cats can sit and relax, while watching the world go by. We also have a selection of scratch posts and play equipment so the cats have plenty of things to do..

Staff regularly visit the cats through the day, to offer cuddles and play. We also offer a section of enrichment actives such a stuffed pine cones, cardboard enrichment, and puzzle boxes.

Play Time 

We ask all owners too provided food for their cats, as this helps them keep a normal routine. We can accommodated most feeding requirements and have freezers and fridges for storage. Please feel free to bring in any enrichment items your cats might enjoy too. Also please bring in any medication and make sure you notify the team member of this when booking and dropping off.

Welcome to West Burton Kennels and Cattery. Set in 6 acres of gardens, in the heart of the beautiful countryside of the south Dorset coastline.

Here at West Burton we like to offer a very modern approach to animal boarding. Minimising time spent in kennels, maximising time in group let outs, and one on one time with staff. Our spacious environment allows for maximum fun time, with a minimum of four outings a day, whether in groups or solo.

Our kennels are spacious and heated, with individual outside runs which are fully covered. We have four fully fenced paddocks, with play equipment for outdoor play, with other doggy friends and  staff.




The Dogs 

The cattery is in a secluded part of West Burton where a peaceful space can be found for all our lovely cats. 

Our chalets offer a sleeping area that can be closed off during the night and on colder days, which is thermostatically heated. 

The play space has a lovely comfy chair for the cats to sit on and watch the world go by, and play equipment is provided.

The Dogs

All of our guest have the use of our large grassed exercise paddocks, which are fully enclosed. Each area has a section of activities available, balls, toys, paddling pools and play equipment for hours of fun.

Fun Fun Fun

Dogs are carefully vetted and if your dog is suitable they can join our large group play sessions. Group play session are amazing for our guest as it offers them a chance to play for hours in our largest paddock and they get to make some new friends. The group is constantly under staff supervision to make sure every one is happy.


Fun With Friends

If your dog is not suitable for group activities they will still have a great time out in the grassed runs, chasing balls and climbing on the play equipment. We also make sure they have plenty of one to one time with a member of the team.



Solo Play

We have two main kennels sizes, standard and double. This means we are able to accommodate all sizes of dogs and family groups. Our kennels all have covered outside runs to protect our guest from the lovely British weather, which they have access to all day.

Visual barriers are put up to cover a portion of the kennel fronts.This helps the dogs feel secure and not over looked, while still enabling us to keep a close eye on them. Each kennels comes with a bed (different sizes available) and cosy blankets are provided. But please feel free to bring your own if you think your dog would prefer. Our heating is done by heat lamps, these are put on all day and night if needed. Heat lamps are an amazing way to ensure you dog has a warm and cozy spot. It also means if you dog is too hot they have the option to move away from the heat.


Rest And Sleep

Regular brushing is part of our daily routine, but if you dog requires that extra special pamper, please contact Reets dog grooming service on 07544336069. We can arrange an onsite session with Reet to make sure your dog looks beautiful and feels great before you come home.


Keeping Clean

We provide one off's and or regular day boarding slots. Please contact us if you wish to discuss drop offs and pick up times. We offer the same amazing fun packed day for day boarders as we do over nighters, with hours of play and activities.

We offer overnight accommodation. We make sure your dog feels safe, secure and relaxed, with with fun packed days. We like all our new guests to complete an introduction day to insure that they are happy, then a 2 day stay to make sure they are settled over night before longer stays can take place.
We find this ensures new dogs are happy and confident when they stay for longer periods.

Our Team

Hello, my family and I arrived in west Burton in march 2019. It has been an amazing process to develop this already wonderful place into the a boarding facility for both cats and dogs, that incorporate my believes in positive animal management. 

I wanted to build a boarding facility where the animals can be fulfilled, by offering them activities and enrichment. And a free roaming approach for the dogs with hours outside mixing and playing with friends. Human contact is also very import for our guests, so staff provide one on one time as much as possible to the animals. So I ensure that all our animals get regular one on one time with a member of the team. 

I have always loved animals and as a young girl I had a job at a kennel and also a children’s farm. My passion grew and I knew that I wanted to work with animals.

I subsequently studied and gained a HND in Animal management back in 1998. This landed me my dream job at a primate recuser centre. I was there for 15 years, working as part of the keeper team and also holding a team leader and management role. It was an amazing time, and it was where I learnt a lot of my skills and positive reinforcement training.

I also have always had a dog by my side and a cat on my sofa, so I completely understand that pets are our family and should be treated as so.

From an early age I knew I’d work with animals, being surrounded by so many it was clear to see the love I developed for all breeds. 

I am extremely passionate about promoting animal welfare. Therefore as soon as I could leave school, I studied for a diploma in animal welfare at Kingston maurward college. This was an agricultural pathway, covering all domestic animals farm animals and equines. Loving this I went on to do an apprenticeship at the animal park. Taking students for practicals as well as being lucky enough to work with a huge variety of animals. Including Harris hawks, barn owls and eagle owls. 

Along side building a career in animals, my other passion is my horses!! Having this hobby from an early age it was natural progression to end up working with them! I enjoyed a lovely 3 years at my local saddle club. Here I competed BHS qualifications including a teaching exam as well as the day to day tasks of a groom. While working here at the yard, there was a huge canine presence, all being clients, staff and livery’s dogs, this is where my passion for our smaller four legged friends developed. When I saw an availability to work at WBK I knew this is where I could bring my passion to life and pride myself on the one to one care of the animals and make them feel comfortable and loved during their stay! 

For the past few years I have worked here, at the wonderful West Burton kennels & cattery. Where I thoroughly enjoy every moment. To see all the animals enjoying a relaxing and comfortable stay, including the more nervous dogs/cats come out of their shell, bond with us, trust us, it is so rewarding. I look forward to seeing returning furry friends as well as meeting new! 

Charlotte (Kennel Manager)

I studied at college for a national diploma in equine management, but decided I would like to work with slightly smaller animals when it came to finding work after receiving her qualifications.

I have a background in canine rescue and spent years successfully aiding in the rehabilitation and rehoming of dogs at a local charity to new forever homes, including my own! I then went on to become senior coach with a nationwide dog charity, doing classes around the Dorset, Hampshire and Surrey areas using positive, force free methods, because she knows how much everyone prefers to work for a reward!

I came to work at West Burton Kennels and Cattery in June 2019 and have enjoyed contributing to the positive enriching manner in which west Burton is run.

I have qualifications in dog grooming and has studied canine psychology and first aid for pets. I enjoy researching enrichment and sensory gardens in my spare time, and enjoy spending time with my 3 dogs. 


Ruth

The final and most important member of our team is Rusty. With an almost uncanny insight into animal behaviour belying his tender age, Rusty is always on hand, to welcome new dogs, to encourage nervous guests into group play, to play with dogs who otherwise can't join in with group let outs. Always with a smile on his face and spring in his step, never letting any spilt food go to waste.

West Burton Kennel & Cattery Terms Of Boarding

Bookings may be made by telephone in person or via email. During peak season (May - September, christmas) Kennel bookings require a 50% non-refundable deposit. 

No dog(s), will be accepted into the kennels without a valid UK contact name, address and telephone number.

All days are charged as a whole, arrival and departure days being charged at the full price regardless of arrival or departure time.

Out of peak season, booking cancellations within fourteen days of arrival will mean a 50% deposit will be required for futher bookings.

Arrivals are between 9:00am and 11:00am, or 3:00pm to 4:00pm.

Departures are between 9:00am and 11:00am or 3:00pm and 6:00pm.

All dogs must be kept on a lead at all times during check-in and check-out.

To be accepted into West Burton Kennels, all dogs must be fully inoculated against Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Para Inuenza, Leptospirosis and Intrac within the last twelve months and not less than two weeks prior to boarding. Vaccination certificates MUST be seen prior to boarding.

We insist that all dogs boarding with us are inoculated against Canine Infectious Bronchitis (Kennel Cough). You may if you wish discuss this matter with your veterinary surgeon as this is caused by a complex virus / bacteria only some of which respond to the vaccination. The vaccine must be administered at least two weeks prior to boarding and we will need to see the vaccination certificate.

Please note: Dog(s) showing signs of Canine Infectious Bronchitis (Kennel Cough) or any contagious disease will be turned away.

All dogs must be fit, in good condition and of pleasant temperament when entering West Burton Kennels. In the event of your dog(s) falling ill during boarding we reserve the right to call in a veterinary surgeon. All costs to be borne by the owner. This will include any veterinary call-out charges, transportation etc. It is the owner’s responsibility to ensure there are sufficient funds to cover this. We reserve the right to turn away any dog which we feel is not suitable to be boarded.

Should any dog be found to be hosting fleas, the person responsible for collecting the dog will at the time of collection, be liable for all costs of treating the animal and surrounding environment considered necessary by West Burton Kennels. It is emphasised that whilst every care and attention is taken, West Burton Kennels accept no responsibility for injury or escape as a result of your dog’s behaviour whilst boarded in the kennels. Should your dog(s) have any behavioural issues you MUST make us aware of these when boarding. Owners are liable for any injury inflicted upon staff or damage caused to property by their dog(s).

Beds and toys provided by he customer will require an adhesive label for identification, we accept no responsibility for damage to owners property as a result of the dog(s) actions.

In the event of an animal not being collected within 14 days of the departure date, we will try to trace / communicate with the owner / contact before proceeding with legal action.
