New Dogs Introduction Process
All new dogs must complete our two step introductory process before staying with us. Due to the social nature of West Burton its vital we complete this process with all new dogs to ensure a safe and harmonious stay for everyone.
Stage One
Stage one of the process involves a day visit. Your dog will arrive in the morning and be introduced to the kennel environment, have a chance to get used to the sounds and smells, meet the staff and spend some time in a kennel getting comfy.
They will join in with the kennel routine and slowly be introduced to one of our play groups. this process is monitored closely by staff and behaviour recorded.
Provided your dog is happy and relaxed, doesnt show aggresion or over stimulation in the group, and is happy in their kennel, they will have passed stage 1.
If they have issues we can work with you and your dog to try and overcome any axiety or behavioural issues stopping them passing stage one.
Stage Two
Stage two is an overnight stay. As with stage 1 your dog will arrive in the morning and spend the day further aclimitising to kennel environement, hopefully making some new friends in the play group.
In the evening they will follow our betime routine, staying the night in a kennel style of your choosing, either a standard or suite.
We operate a quiet at night policy at West Burton, howling and barking at night are a sign something is wrong, we dont beleive owners would want thier dogs to be dissrtressed at night which is the reason we have this policy. as with stage 1 we can work with you and your dog to help identify and mitigate any issues they have.
While the process may seem strict we operate it to ensure when your dog stays with us you know it will be happy, safe and relaxed. It is essential to provide that environment for all dogs to have completed the process. We can work with you and your animal to help them through the process.
Sadly the kennel environment is not suitable for every dog, some dogs will never become calm and comfortable in the kennel, and sadly they wont be able to stay with us.
To avoid disappointment the sooner you begin the introductory process the better, especially if you have a holiday booked with fixed dates in the future.
